Do you know what you want to be?

Just saw an interesting line a Dean Koontz book I’m reading (the LAST place I expected to find an idea about change!). The underlying concept’s is what I found compelling. The character says (emphasis mine)…
…were furious about being victims, but they thrived on it. They wouldn’t know what to be if they couldn’t be victims.
Remove the “victims” part and this can describe many of us — focused and gaining energy on the wrongness in our lives, rather than knowing what we could be and becoming energized from it.
